Roger's Last Tour

I'm not as young as I used to be. I'm not like B.B. King, or Muddy Waters," the 66-year-old said. "My friend Eric Clapton ... he'll be playing guitar and he'll be on stage 'til the day he dies, because that's what he does."
"I'm not a great vocalist or a great instrumentalist or whatever, but I still have the fire in my belly, and I have something to say," he continued. "I have a swan song in me and I think this will probably be it."

On the subject of the reunion in 2005, he reflects on the importance of the "symbiosis between the four band members, in which I call the golden years of the band, all we contributed, the combination of the four
separated talents was something very very special”.

However, he has thought about the possible obsticle to another reunion. “The problem is this one: during 20 years [Pink Floyd] has been [David Gilmour's] baby, for that reason he is so obstinate. If we reunited for any
reason, I would be delighted to do it. Not a single show, but a series of events that we could do. It would be very satisfactory for me... but I do not believe that Dave wants to do it.”

He noted that he holds rich memories from Mexico, when he was there in 2002.“Fans did something amazing the last time that I was there. As an encore I played 'Flickering Flame', and something happened that I'd
never seen before: 30 thousand people igniting and extinguishing its lighters to the sound of a song that they'd never heard.

“That was fabulous, absolutely fabulous. I have never seen it in any other city of the world. I hope that they do it again”, he said, smiling.

Roger Explains why now.
"I recently came across this quote of mine from 22 years ago: ” What it comes down to for me is this: Will the technologies of communication in our culture, serve to enlighten us and help us to understand
one another better, or will they deceive us and keep us apart?” I believe this is still a supremely relevant question and the jury is out. There is a lot of commercial clutter on the net, and a lot of propaganda,
but I have a sense that just beneath the surface understanding is gaining ground.  We just have to keep blogging, keep twittering, keep communicating, keep sharing ideas. 30 Years ago when I wrote The
Wall I was a frightened young man. Well not that young, I was 36 years old. It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear
and loss with it’s concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns.: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever!  All these issues and ‘isms
are driven by the same fears that drove my young life. This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent
lost in the intervening years. In some quarters, among the chattering classes, there exists a cynical view that human beings as a collective are incapable of developing more ‘humane’ ie, kinder, more
generous, more cooperative, more empathetic relationships with one another. I disagree. In my view it is too early in our story to leap to such a conclusion, we are after all a very young species.

I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other.

I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to express my, albeit guarded, optimism, and encourage others to do the same. To quote the great man, ” You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

- Roger Waters, 2010

A new poem? A new Song? A Plea to reunite the band?
In a Press release recently announcing the relocation of Roger's show in Israel,
Roger submitted a poem that he written inspired by watching The Bands Last
Waltz. Its a wonderful piece, and to us its plain as day what it means, but we do
not think for you.
A few weeks ago I watched again Martin Scorsese's film which documented
the last concert by The Band and I was inspired to write a few words i see
fitting:

The Last Waltz

I just want that thing
When voices join in harmony
And in that fleeting moment,
Meaning coalesces on the ear,
All dark, dissolving, clouds the alleyways no more
And fresh bread scent of home pervades the air

No sandal soles

In dust of broken homes

Nor callused toes peep bloody from the garment hem,
And all the big parades
And shock and awe
And swagger on the carrier decks and medals
Jangle helpless in the face of what is fair

I just want that thing
When friends draw in, some living some begone,
Some brittle, none forgotten
All beloved everyone.

Then dash the glass into the fire
Then well up unashamed my heart
Beyond the reach of fear
Of faith, blind, bigoted and drear

And then across the great divide
Rise men and women unafraid
To dash in loss their bracelets at the wall,
And hearing them
Hope holds me in its thrall.

I just want that thing
When empathy prevails
When man evolves beyond the crass
And reason comes of age
When dogma, cant, and witchcraft
All are banished to the past
When voices join in harmony at last.

All are banished to the past
When voices join in harmony at last.

Oggi quando canto “Another brick in the wall” part II penso all’inutilità delle guerre. Mi chiedo, che stiamo a fare in Afghanistan? Cosa siamo andati a fare in Iraq?
